Prof. V. Navaratnam

Professor (Dr.) V. Navaratnam is Senior Professor in Clinical Pharmacology and Addiction Studies, at the National Center for Drug Research, University of Science Malaysia (USM). He was the Foundation Director of the Center for Drug Research from 1978 to 2000. He received his undergraduate training at theUniversityofLondongraduating in 1970. He received his initial post-graduate training in clinical neuroscience at the Institute of Neurology, University of London and then went on to train in Clinical Neuropharmacology at the Royal Infirmary Bath,University of Bath,England. He is a recipient of several fellowships including WHO, Canadian Government (CCDA), Government of France, NIDA, (USA), NIAID (USA), British Council etc. He was Visiting Senior Research Fellow at WRAIR working on antimalarial development (1989-1990) and University of Liverpool (1991).

He returned to Malaysia, as Lecturer, and Head of Clinical Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy Department, School of Pharmaceutical and Medical Sciences at USM, in 1976. He was appointed Associate Professor in 1979, and made full Professor in 1988. He was appointed Senior Professor in 1993. In 2008, he was appointed Emeritus Professor. In 2010, he was appointed as National Professor, National Council of Professors 2010.
In 2003 he was appointed co-chair for the identification and acculturation of Research Universities. In 2007 he was appointed Senior advisor on University Research Excellence Management to the Ministry of Higher Education and continues to serve in that capacity.

He has published extensively with over a 350 journal publications and an equal number of lead conference presentations.
